Summary
The goal of this pilot is to empirically investigate if the inflammations in feet, which are recognized as areas of hypervascularisation in Duplex Ultrasound, can show significant higher blood flow in some veins around the ankle joint. Recent studies of literature regarding venous anatomy will explain the measurements and the choice of the three key points at the ankle joint. Our conclusion is that we found suggestive evidence for the relation between inflammation and higher venous blood flow around the ankle. Furthermore, we will discuss the relation regarding the plantar musculature and the venous drainage of the foot. Podiatrists need to identify this relation when they apply sole stiffeners and rocker soles to the footwear of patients and keep in mind the risk of venous thrombosis.
